Jeju Car Rental; KT Kumho

Oh well, i thought i can write about our vacation in Seoul this time, but i'm writing about our rental car in jeju instead. (-.-")

We decided to rent a car instead of hiring a driver or moving around by public transports because we wanted a freedom. Ok, moving by public transport give you freedom too; and would be the cheapest way, but renting a car would be more convenient right? Sure it's more expensive than taking public transports but definitely cheaper than hiring a private driver/cab.

So after surveying some possible car rental websites, we finally choose KT Kumho. We booked the car from their website. You don't have to pay directly during the booking, because payment will be made upon picking up the car. But they require you to print the reservation itinerary and present it to them later on. They only accept credit card by the way, so make sure that your credit card is activated for international transactions during the travel period.

After arrived at Jeju airport, we went to the KT Kumho counter which located near the arrival hall at the airport. The counter lady gave us the direction to go to exit (er, exit B door maybe) where a shuttle bus was waiting. Then they brought us to KT Kumho's office where the car would be picked up.

The process is quite easy anyway. After we received the key, the staff showed us our car and we need to check for any scratches or damage on the car. *make sure you check it carefully to avoid from being claimed of doing the damage that you're actually not later on!*

This is our car btw!~

Hyundai Avante 1.6cc auto

Looks good isn't it? :D

FYI, the car has been fully topped up with gasoline, so before you return the car, you need to refill the gasoline to full bar.

our rental fee was 83,600 won for total of 48 hours and the gasoline costed us 51,000 won.
So the total was 134,600 won = RM376 (divide by 4, so it's around RM94 per person).
we also got the English GPS btw, and it's free of charge, so yeay!~~

Overall, I satisfied with the car because it's brand new (or at least it looks like a brand new car :p), and driving the car was very comfortable even though it's quite difficult at first due to the left-sided driver's seat. but then I 'mastered' *zzzzz* that and after all the most difficult thing of driving in jeju was the speed limit :/

Oh before I forgot, driving in Korea needs you to have the international driving permit (IDP). So for Malaysians, you can apply the license at JPJ office for RM150/year.

  6. Hi,

May I know how long does it take from the airport to KT Kumho's office?

How long does it take you to go through the car rental process from inspection until you drive the car?

    Thanks.

  7. hello Etheravion,

The ride from the airport to KT kumho's ofc took about 10 minutes by the shuttle.

And for the rental process, overall it took me around 15~20 minutes for the whole process. Inspecting the car wont take much of your time anyway. :)

  8. Is there convenient to get a petrol station/gas in the whole Jeju island?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Intan Zuraini - yes, it is. in our case, since the petrol was fully topped up when we got the car, it was more than enough to cover us for that 2 days.so we just need to top up the gas again before we returned the car. No need to worry, GPS can find the petrol station for u :)

  15. You and I have the same reason why I prefer renting a car than hiring a driver. I want to have freedom. It is as simple as that. Hehe! As long as you have sense of direction and you’re confident to explore a foreign place, then go for it! :D

  16. Renting a car in a foreign country gives you freedom. I say yes to that! You get to go to places you want to especially to those that are not reached by public transportation. The thought of driving in a foreign land is a treat in itself; what more if the car is of good quality? That’s a great way to start your vacation. And I can see that you enjoyed it to the brim!

    2. thanks for reply, do you book/register online prior depart to korea ? or on the spot book/regsiter?
can i choose smaller car as we have only 2 person.

    3. yes i booked it in advance, around 1 month before departing to jeju. it's better to book online so that u can reserve the type of car that u want.

of course u can book smaller car~ definitely cheaper and easier to handle i would say :)

    4. thanks for your information, just to ask when should i apply for international driving licence and how long it take ?

      Delete
    5. hi, i am unable to register as member yet as they require international driving licence ID which i havent apply yet.
when i try to book car without login, i saw only entitled for 20% discount.

      Delete
    6. yes, registration in the car rental page needs u to input your international driving license number. the license can be done anytime at JPJ branch and it won't take a long time to do that. Last time it took me only 10minutes for that 1 piece of license.

So i suggest u to apply for the license first and register/book the car.

  23. Hi,
Why I can't tick at navigation (english) box ?
It might be difficult to drive along Jeju-si.
Will they provide the navigation later

    1. hi,

that might because the english gps is no longer 'available' in the system. u can just tick at the korean gps box and ask for change to the english version at KT ofc later on.
we faced the same problem last time, but we just ticked for korean gps and asked for change to english gps on the day we took the car. they still have the unit available (it might depends on luck tho. but better got the gps than none ) :D
